HRA Rules Changed: PAN Card of House Owner Required? ITR Filing New update

HRA Rules Changed: All of you that this is the main month of tax filing. If you are taking benefit of HRA (House Rent Allowance) in ITR filing then you must know that some rules are changed regarding HRA. From this year you want to submit some extra documents while filing ITR1 & ITR4 form.

Most of the people’s and house owners are still in confusion that it is mandatory to submit house owners PAN Card while filing ITR. Some rules are updated regarding the same, let’s understand it in detail.

House Owners PAN is mandatory?

From this year of 2025 there is a separate place of HRA in ITR Form, earlier it was not available. From this year now you want to submit your house owners PAN Card details to income tax department if you pay rent of more than 1 Lakh rupees yearly. It means that if you pay rent of Rs 8,333 or more than that monthly. Then now it is mandatory to submit PAN Number of House owner to income tax department.

If you file ITR without providing details of house owner’s PAN card then you will not get benefit of HRA. Also pls note if you are providing wrong details of PAN Card then you will definitely get notice from Income tax department.

New Changes in ITR FORM

As per new rules you must want to provide above information in ITR Excel Form. HRA amount provided by your employer must want to declare now onward. What’s the total rent you paid to your house owners, it should be declare transparently.

As per the 17(1) Income Tax Act you needs to submit your basis salary details and allowance which are you getting every year. You needs to submit all the details transparently to avoid notice from income tax department.

Why PAN Card is asked

It observed that most of the Indian Landlords are earning crores of rupees from rental income. But they didn’t provide this income details while filing ITR. To track all the rental income now government made it compulsory to provide landlords PAN while filing ITR.
